Volume Rendering

This page describes some work that we've done that breaks new ground in volume rendering. The goal of this project is to perform direct volume rendering of data that is too large to fit on the local workstation. The method we describe combines both remote, parallel software volume rendering techniques with the use of local graphics hardware. The result is a reasonably interactive tool for volume visualization. The new work presented in this project is that the rendering task is shared between local and remote hosts.

The technique used to create this image is as-yet unpublished, but was first described in an informal presentation by Roger Crawfis of Ohio State University at a talk held in Salt Lake City in May, 1999. More details will be forthcoming.
