• Some data suggests natural translations:

  • Data which has geometry (e.g. terrain)
  • Scalar and vector data with coordinates (e.g. mineral density, electromagnetic fields)

• Some methods of conversion:

  • Slices (2D cross sections)
  • Isosurfaces (3D contours)
  • Volume rendering (direct view of 3D scalar data)
  • Streamlines (vector flows)
